As the Senior Director of Quality Assurance for the Harlem Children’s Zone, Laura N. Vural leads the team conducting assessments and providing coaching to strengthen staff’s practice towards consistent, high quality programming. Vural began working with the Harlem Children’s Zone in 1991 when she launched the nationally acclaimed arts and media program, TRUCE (formerly known as Rise & Shine Productions). While at TRUCE, Vural created Harlem Children’s Zone’s College Success Office to provide continued support for students towards college graduation. In 2008, Vural became Harlem Children’s Zone’s Director of Education and designed the Academic Case Management system that builds the academic strengths and youth development competencies of middle, high school and college students towards high school, college, career, and life readiness. Vural travels frequently as a youth development, community arts and college readiness educational consultant. She has also served on the Massachusetts Cultural Council and Colorado Arts Council Youth Reach Panels. Vural received an M.A. in Art and Art Education from Columbia University’s Teachers College where she has also taught Community Arts Education and Youth Development, Media Literacy, and Collaborative Practices.
